Your business The Engineering Pathways Crew, within the Engineering Platform Domain, ensures that CommBank has a world-class engineering capability and is at the forefront of technology. We deliver, manage and operate the key engineering platform capabilities that enable our CommBank engineering community to deliver innovative solutions to the CBA Group and our customers. We continually push to improve the CommBank engineering experience through the development and adoption of new platform-level capabilities that improve the CBA Group’s DevSecOps maturity. Integrating the best AI capabilities to further improve this experience is core to our mission. Do work that matters As a Principal Software Engineer within the Engineering Pathways Crew, you will drive two critical engineering experience outcomes: Drive the design, build, and management of engineering golden paths that optimize the delivery of AI-enabled products and services. Accelerate the adoption of AI capabilities as an enabler to drive the full cycle DevSecOps engineering experience within the CBA Group. Role responsibilities: Address the most challenging problems within the team, from technical design to production operations at scale. Through a Product Engineering mindset, translate product objectives and customer needs into actionable engineering deliverables, effectively delegating tasks to squad members. Ensure DevSecOps practices and methodologies are applied through the end-to-end development lifecycle. Seek out opportunities to apply AI-assisted engineering tools to enhance the engineering experience. Collaborate with company-wide engineering teams to ensure platform capabilities meet the broad needs of distinct product delivery areas. Contribute directly to code delivery and enable best practice by leading code reviews, championing documentation, and resolving complex challenges. Provide mentorship to junior team members. What you will bring: Proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale, complex engineering initiatives. Demonstrable experience in applying AI technologies to enhance an end-to-end product development lifecycle. Extensive knowledge of cloud-enabled full cycle engineering and DevSecOps practices. Exceptional strategic thinking with proven experience of taking concepts to code in a complex enterprise setting. A clear passion for transforming the ways engineers can deliver great customer outcomes. Practical applied experience in one or more of the following domains/technologies: AI-augmented development e.g., Cursor, Bolt, Cline, Replit, or Project IDX. AI-augmented test & QA tooling, security & code quality tooling. AI-augmented code documentation tooling. Strong mentoring and leadership skills, with a passion for upskilling engineers and fostering a culture of innovation. Ability to influence cross-functional teams, articulate trade-offs, and align technical decisions with business objectives.
