Principal Solicitor - Commercial Regulatory, Ongoing opportunity, based in Sydney CBD Role: Principal Solicitor – Regulatory Commercial Location: Sydney CBD, flexible working options available Grade: Clerk Grade 11/12 Salary Range: $145,378 - $168,130 + super Employment Type: ONGOING position An exciting ongoing opportunity for an experienced commercial lawyer has become available within the Department of Customer Service (DCS) Legal Division. As a Principal Solicitor Regulatory Commercial (Grade 11/12), the role will principally work in the corporate commercial regulatory space providing strategic, pragmatic, focused, and accountable specialist legal advice and strategy across a range of areas covering ICT, corporate, commercial, and regulatory. Administrative law knowledge and/or experience is also desirable but not essential. Primarily providing legal services in support of our SafeWork NSW business, in this role you will be working in an interesting and fast-paced regulatory environment, joining a passionate and motivated group of professionals providing independent, professional legal advice and legal services on a broad range of matters. This is an ongoing full-time employment opportunity in a vibrant and supportive team. A talent pool may be created for future opportunities. Remuneration of $145,378 - $168,130 + super & leave loading, commensurate with experience. Based in Haymarket, Sydney CBD. The person in this role will need to: Provide timely, accurate, strategic and expert legal advice on a range of commercial matters including contracts, licenses, Intellectual Property, technology, funding/grants, and procurement to maximise client, commercial, and operational objectives; Provide the highest level of legal services, advocacy, and advice to clients, senior management, and staff, in accordance with legislative requirements, policies, procedures, guidelines, precedents, and practice standards, to ensure consistent, quality services are delivered, and outcomes are improved for the department. Interpret and distil complex legal issues for the business and prepare documents including advice, submissions, contractual documentation, deeds, agreements, briefing notes, and correspondence to provide guidance on legal implications of decisions and actions. Support complex procurement negotiations with suppliers to ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements. Provide legal advice including contractual performance, agreements, dispute resolution, instructions to external legal advisors, and briefing external legal counsel to ensure legal issues are addressed and fully accounted for to maximise outcomes for the Organisation. Work with our clients and stakeholders and assist in developing and providing guidance or training material to the business to ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements. About You: You will hold a Bachelor of Laws or equivalent degree qualification and have relevant post-qualification experience as a solicitor. You are admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and hold a current unrestricted practising certificate as a solicitor. It is also desirable, but not essential, to have knowledge or experience in identifying relevant legislative and/or administrative law issues. You will have strong analytical ability, lateral thinking, and problem-solving skills including strong negotiation, advocacy, and stakeholder management capability. You have an ability to provide quality independent legal advice and are able to confidently manage legal risk prioritising time-sensitive matters, handling large volumes of work and managing deadlines. You will be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of two or more of the following: Contracts; Licenses; Intellectual Property; Funding/grants; Corporate/commercial projects; ICT/Digital; Procurement.
