Principal Ventilation & Services Engineer | Olympic Dam | 5:2 Date: 5 Mar 2025 Job Posting End Date: 26-Mar-2025; 13:29:59 GMT Job Country: Australia Job State/Province: South Australia Job Location/Region: Roxby Downs About the Role: Reporting to the Superintendent Planning and Infrastructure, this role is responsible for the strategic and technical mine ventilation and services work in the 2-8 year planning horizon. The Principal Ventilation and Services Engineer will play an instrumental role in supporting technical work of one of the largest and most complex underground mines in the world. The role provides guidance to a wide range of technical and operational stakeholders with a focus on the overall mine ventilation system and environment and the underground mine services network and both their impacts on safety, production, cost and achievement of the mine plan and future growth at Olympic Dam.This position is based at Adelaide on a 5:2 roster with occasional site travel to Olympic Dam, flexible work arrangements available. In This Role You Will: Ensuring that all legislative, internal, and best practice standards are met with respect to ventilation planning and OH&S. Model Infrastructure demand over the 5 year mine plan to understand capital infrastructure project requirements. Justify capital spend using the projects framework whilst optimising for capital efficiencies. Education and coaching of personnel to improve understanding of ventilation systems, plans, and practices. Timely delivery and review of ventilation design for development, production, and project activities; complying with legislative and internal standards. Consultation in monthly, stope & mine block, and 5YP/LoA planning processes with attention to safety, schedule, reliability and costs. Liaising between stakeholders to support a comprehensive integrated mine plan. Develop and deliver opportunities to step-change project delivery. Integration of associated planning and schedule software to support operations. Contribute / Subject Matter Expert to Ventilation modelling and major projects (eg Circuit performance optimisation, Ventsim model calibration, Ventilation system surveys). Quarterly and monthly monitoring and reporting on health & performance of ventilation circuits. Build and maintain close working relationship with a wide range of stakeholders across CuSA including Engineering and Projects sub-functions. Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development. About You: Mining Engineering degree or similar. Professional qualification in Mine Ventilation is highly desirable. Significant mining experience and detailed understanding of the underground mining cycle in sub level open stoping. Experience in mine or project scheduling is highly desirable. Competency in mine ventilation and design software platforms (VentSim, Deswik, MS Office). Ability to interpret limited measured / monitoring data, identify potential issues and causes of change, and develop processes to validate assumptions. Able to develop preferred and alternate ventilation strategies, identify and escalate potential risks and mitigating actions. Excellent communication skills including the ability to influence others, communicate complex concepts, and document clearly and concisely. Ability to work collaboratively across different work groups and proactively engage with a range of stakeholders including senior levels of management. Experience in Mine Ventilation (e.g. ventilation execution, ventilation planning / scheduling, ventilation officer). Experience in Lean Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints will be advantageous. Olympic Dam experience will be advantageous. Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems with minimal direction.
