Principal Workplace Health and Safety Advisor QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities. About the role You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by delivering services and advice on a variety of WH&S and environmental technical issues related to the building, construction, and maintenance industry. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing proactive WHS&E training and management programs, conducting audits, reporting and investigating incidents, supporting worker rehabilitation and return-to-work programs, and ensuring compliance through monitoring and corrective actions. Duties and skills involved: Overseeing the Environmental and Safety and Health Management Systems for the relevant Region to ensure compliance is being achieved and risks are identified and managed. Providing workplace health, safety and environmental advice to senior management and regional staff sourced from existing legislation, industry standards and internal policy / procedures. Supporting and assisting the region in implementing any actions needed to ensure effective and compliant environmental, safety and health processes. Investigating dangerous incidents, hazards and workplace accidents, conducting health, safety and environmental management system audits, inspecting construction sites, maintenance activities and QBuild offices and depots, and identifying hazards and risks and formulating and implementing preventative actions. Providing senior management with formal reports on health and safety KPI's and supporting the regional management team in the management of the rehabilitation of staff. Managing workplace health, safety and environmental programs and providing WHS&E support relevant to program managers in the delivery of individual works programs. Leading, developing and educating staff in new technologies both in the field of workplace health, safety and environment (including the management of asbestos and lead) through formal training and regular communication. Reviewing Environmental and Safety Management System procedures and making recommendations for improvement. Proactively managing the work performance and personal conduct of your staff. Preferred skills and experience: Demonstrated experience providing advice in WHS legislative compliance requirements, including relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards/International Standards. Demonstrated strong knowledge of industry, or similar industry, including the ability to identify building construction and maintenance hazards and risks and the related controls and strategies for elimination. Demonstrated experience in the effective development and delivery of programs and improvement initiatives. Additional Requirements: While there are no mandatory requirements, WHS&E experience in construction, maintenance, or similar industry and Certificate IV in WHS is highly desirable.
