The Service Management Monitoring Technology chapter examines the critical tools, frameworks, and methodologies used to monitor, measure, and optimise our IT services in real-time, by focusing on key areas such as observability, event management, and analytics. With a deep commitment to scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency, the team plays a crucial role in delivering our Site Reliability objectives. Your Role As Product Owner – ServiceNow CMDB, you will lead the strategy, development, and adoption of our Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within ServiceNow. You will be responsible for ensuring data integrity, automation, and self-service capabilities that empower teams across the organisation to manage and utilise configuration data effectively. To achieve this, you may expect to: Define and own the ServiceNow CMDB roadmap, ensuring alignment with ITSM and business goals. Drive data accuracy, consistency, and governance to ensure a trusted source of configuration data. Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and ITSM teams to improve CMDB integration across platforms. Automate discovery, reconciliation, and lifecycle management of configuration items (CIs). Develop and promote self-service capabilities, enabling teams to leverage CMDB insights independently. Work closely with stakeholders to prioritise enhancements, ensuring CMDB supports IT operations, security, and compliance needs. Champion best practices in configuration management, ensuring the CMDB remains a reliable foundation for IT services. Your Skills and Experience Strong experience in ServiceNow CMDB, including CI class structures, relationships, and reconciliation. Software engineering or development background, with knowledge of APIs, scripting (JavaScript, PowerShell, Python), and automation tools. Familiarity with ITSM, ITOM, and ITIL frameworks and how CMDB supports these functions. Understanding of discovery tools (ServiceNow Discovery, SCCM, SolarWinds, etc.) and how they integrate with CMDB. Experience in Agile methodologies, with the ability to manage backlogs, sprints, and stakeholder expectations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to optimise CMDB usability and automation.
