Your New Organisation: A Federal Government DepartmentYour New Role: EL1 Program Manager / APS 6 Program Support OfficerLocation: Canberra ABOUT THE ROLE EL1 Program Manager The Program Manager is responsible for providing support and guidance to a range of internal and external stakeholders on portfolio and project management processes, tools and techniques to support the outcomes of the agency programs. The role works as part of a small team under limited direction of the Director and undertakes work that is very complex or sensitive in nature. The EL1 exercises sound decision-making, judgment and engages in complex problem-solving and issues and benefits management. The EL1 may also coordinate and/or undertake detailed or sensitive projects that impact strategic, political, or operational outcomes for the agency. Responsibilities Foster and sustain constructive engagement with stakeholders to allow the agency Office to appropriately assist in managing, monitoring, and reporting on projects/programs, as well as in promptly identifying and addressing risks and issues. Conduct document reviews and perform assurance functions to ensure projects are structured and managed appropriately to successfully manage the risk of not delivering to time, cost and quality. Plan, manage and execute assurance activities and reviews and provide reports to ensure clarity for target audience, to identify performance issues, risks, and provide recommendations and expert advice to inform decision making. Annual review of project Assurance Plan, which underpins the assurance activities will be reviewed at least every 12 months to ensure the plan is fit for purpose. Review of all draft and final assurance reports resulting from assurance activities, in addition to health check reports. Identify and engage external assurance resources as required in alignment to the framework ensuring a comprehensive end-to-end assurance program. Identifying, planning, measuring, and tracking benefits from the start of the program or project investment until realisation of the last projected benefit. Investigate and continually improve practices of program management including identifying opportunities for business improvements and greater effectiveness in scheduling, tracking, budgeting and resourcing of projects. Provide support to various portfolio office operations, adapting to the dynamic needs of the team. APS 6 Program Support Officer The Program Support Officer is responsible for providing support to the Program Manager and guidance to a range of internal and external stakeholders on portfolio and project management processes, tools and techniques to support the outcomes of the agency programs. The role works as part of a small team under limited direction of the agency Program Manager with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability. The APS6 uses both initiative and judgement in the application of practices and procedures and exercises sound decision-making, and may assist in strategic planning, program and project management, and benefits management. The APS6 role may assist the Program Manager to coordinate and/or undertake detailed or sensitive projects with a range of stakeholders that impact strategic, political, or operational outcomes for the agency.
