Job Description

We are seeking an experienced project professional with excellent stakeholder engagement skills to join a small team working to enable individuals, groups and/or reef dependent industries (primarily the marine tourism industry) with various motivations and levels of capacity, to achieve positive environmental outcomes for the Great Barrier Reef. The position will support the Reef Authority in the delivery of its Reef Education and Engagement Implementation Plan, that identifies and articulates how the Reef Authority will work towards and deliver against its corporate objective “enhancing Reef resilience through partnerships, collaboration and education”. Contributing to and working to foster reef stewardship, the Project Manager Strategic Engagement focuses on and manages the delivery of strategic programs such as, but not limited to; High Standard Tourism Operations, Master Reef Guide, Eye on the Reef, Reef Guardian Councils and Local Marine Advisory Committees. This role is responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders within the Great Barrier Reef region, and encouraging the adoption of current environmental best practices for reef-based industries. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of strategic programs that foster reef stewardship. Build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders within the Great Barrier Reef region. Ensure programs are delivered on time and within budget. Provide expert advice and technical knowledge to stakeholders, ensuring the application of environmental best practices. Drive innovation initiatives to improve project delivery. Promote and encourage reef stewardship to advance ecologically sustainable use, protection and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Eligibility To Succeed In This Role, You Will Bring At least 3-5 years of project management experience, particularly in stakeholder engagement. Tertiary qualifications in marine science or a related discipline. Proven ability to manage projects, priorities, and competing demands effectively. Experience in interpreting and applying relevant policy or legislation, ideally in natural science management. A passion for working collaboratively to achieve positive environmental outcomes.
