Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is seeking After Hours Triage & Urgent Care Project Officer that will develop, coordinate, and implement an Urgent Care Clinic based at the Galiwin’ku health centre and an afterhours triage services across Zone 2 Clinics. This is a fixed-term, full time role until 30 June 2026, with regular travel to remote East Arnhem communities, including flights on charter planes. Urgent Care Clinics have the designed purpose of improving access to urgent care services by providing out of hours urgent care. The Urgent Care clinics are intended to provide short term, episodic care for urgent conditions that are not immediately life-threatening. This will involve ensuring that urgent care is provided across a 24-hour period, but also to ensure primary health care services are supported to continue their primary focus without impact from the current unfunded requirement to provide out of hours emergency response services. About Miwatj Miwatj Health is an independent Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service. Established in 1992, we’re committed to securing quality health care services across the East Arnhem and enabling Yolŋu powered community health and wellbeing. Miwatj provides culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care to over 6,000 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents across 3 East Arnhem wards. With a Head Office in Nhulunbuy, Miwatj also manages a Corporate Office in Darwin, 7 fixed clinics across the East Arnhem region, and dedicated outreach teams who travel to 3 additional locations. Key Responsibilities Co-ordinate and project manage the development of the Afterhours triage service and Urgent Care Clinic, leading, innovating, and adapting the process to refine a model that works effectively for patients, the community and MHAC health services. Working with and reporting to the Director of Nursing & Midwifery, taking direction, and collaborating with them and senior managers, as to how best to develop the model and functioning. Navigate, lead, and nurture the process of development and implementation, working across and closely with multidisciplinary teams. Manage and collaborate with the relevant staff, working with them in the development process, taking cultural guidance and direction, working in a two-way learning model, ensuring both the After-Hours Triage service and UCC is Yolngu powered at their core to ensure an Aboriginal led model of care is developed and trialled. Selection Criteria Candidates must have an understanding of and commitment to empowering Yolngu people to own and lead their health journey (self-determination) and improving health service delivery, and health outcomes for Aboriginal people; An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health organisations (ACCHO) and the issues faced by Yolngu people living in remote settings; Excellent communication skills, with ability to listen deeply, to be aware of body language and other communication in a cross cultural and multilingual environment; to better understand the challenges, barriers, and potential solutions in the development of the project.
