About the roles We’re brewing something special at Balter Brewing Co. in Currumbin, and we want you to be part of it! As we set up a brand-new Quality team, we’re looking for passionate and talented individuals to join us in three exciting roles: Quality Systems Specialist Be the backbone of our quality systems, ensuring everything flows smoothly and aligns with our standards of excellence. Microbiologist Dive into the world of microbes and keep our brews as clean and crisp as they should be. Lab Technologist (Maternity Cover) Step into this dynamic role to support our lab operations and ensure top-notch quality for our products. Each of these roles report to the Quality Manager, working as part of a small team interacting with every team in the Brewery, combining together to ensure we make the freshest beer. Quality Systems Specialist Management of Quality and Food Safety based Systems - FSSC, GMP, HACCP, PRPs, AGPRM and other third-party Standards; Manage and lead relevant external audit programs including documentation management and production records; Conduct relevant internal audits and delegates and facilitate gap closure with key stakeholders, driving corrective action implementation; Lead and manage continuous improvement of quality assurance/control processes within manufacturing; Participate or lead manufacturing quality problems solving activities utilising relevant business tools such as 5-Why, Root Cause Analysis or similar; Facilitate quality systems and improvement workshops as required; Improve organization effectiveness through the development and deployment of solutions to enhance productivity and drive a quality culture; including KPI management and reporting, data driven analysis/trending and utilising onsite systems (Ignition, Netsuite, etc) to communicate effectively to the wider site and central teams; Advise and implement Nationally developed procedures and support Quality centralisation initiatives. Microbiologist Provide technical expertise to the site in the areas of microbiology and hygiene; Track results and KPIs and communicate to appropriate stakeholders; Act as specialist to continuously improve Balter compliance and alignment against Asahi Global Microbiological Standards; Revise operating practice standards and procedures to improve microbiological compliance within the brewery; Ensure the accurate measurement of microbiological parameters, and the integrity of the results. Records for all work must be maintained as per GLP; Adhere to the Balter microbiological methodology, frequencies and sampling techniques of microbiological staff and operators; Conduct microbiological analysis across brewing and packaging as per the internal and central quality sampling plans; Manage and support yeast propagation across plant and lab stages; Provide accurate and timely reporting to ensure brewery personnel are aware of microbiological performance in the brewery; Provide trending of microbiological results to aid in problem resolution; Educate the line teams on the risks associated with poor micro control, micro hazards and actions required to be taken in the event of unacceptable micro loading; Monitor and report compliance to plant minimum mandatory CIP schedule; Conduct audits and surveys to identify opportunities for improvement in work practices and support gap closure; Contribute to self and team development; Apply HACCP/GMP practices to prevent microbiological infections. Be a member of the site HACCP team and support food safety initiatives related to microbiology; Organise and/or carry out required maintenance and calibrations of relevant micro lab equipment as per manufacturers recommendations; Adhere to and maintain safety and housekeeping standards in line with plant policies; Identify report and rectify unsafe practices; Adhere to chemical handling and disposal procedures, ensuring MSDS database correct; Stay updated on the latest advancements in microbiology to bring innovative practices to our brewery. Lab Technologist (Maternity Cover) Perform routine laboratory tests to monitor product quality and compliance with specifications; Maintain and calibrate lab equipment to ensure accurate results; Support quality investigations by analyzing samples, verifying results and reporting findings; Assist in maintaining accurate and organized lab records and documentation; Analyse samples as per business standards, maintaining the quality and traceability of all analytical data; Utilise Netsuite to receipt samples and record results. The skills needed Quality Systems Specialist Strong knowledge of quality management systems and relevant industry standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 9001). Excellent organizational and project management skills. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret quality data and generate actionable insights. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams. Proficiency in quality software and tools. Microbiologist Expertise in microbiological testing methods and laboratory procedures. In-depth understanding of food and beverage microbiology. Problem-solving skills to identify and address microbial issues. Attention to detail and precision in laboratory work. Ability to stay current with advancements in microbiology and apply them effectively. Lab Technologist (Maternity Cover) Proficiency in laboratory testing and analytical techniques. Experience in maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment. Strong documentation and record-keeping skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Basic knowledge of quality assurance principles. About You … You hold a Bachelor degree in science with experience in food & beverage manufacturing or a similar role. You have a minimum of 4 years of Quality experience and it would be an advantage if you had a IBD Diploma. Your ‘can do’ attitude gives you the ability to establish strong relationships with all levels in the business, and communicate clearly with the relevant stakeholders.
