Job Background/context: This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a highly ranked Metals and Mining Equities Research Team. The team is dynamic and maintains a collaborative environment, pushing company trade ideas and sector views. The team collaborates with global and regional counterparts to author highly differentiated Deep Dive research pieces. Key Responsibilities: Conduct fundamental analysis of the companies within the sector coverage and financial models to forecast the company’s performance / valuation. The Equity Associate for Metals and Mining will provide support to the sector head and/or other lead analysts. Research will vary – short term trading ideas, thematic and/or results commentaries. The associate will be tasked with data analysis for research models, forecasting, providing industry updates, responding to client requests, and writing reports. Be familiar with the various business models and financial statements of publicly listed companies within the Metals and Mining sector. Work with the Lead analysts to develop and present high conviction trade ideas. Monitor closely and interpret market trends in the Commodities space (and related industries). Collaborate with other team members to enhance research and valuation methodologies. Utilize alternative data, industry contacts, and other resources for comprehensive sector analysis. Maintain valuation databases for companies and commodities under coverage. Engagement with Research Sales, Clients and other stakeholders, to raise awareness of the Research. Knowledge/Experience: 3+ years previous experience in equity research, credit analysis, audit ideally covering Resource companies. Strong financial modelling skills and a sound knowledge of accounting. Strong deductive capacity and genuine interest in the Resources Industry. Highly motivated, hard working and willing to learn. Excellent communication skills. Proven track record of success in both professional and academic settings. Passionate about markets. Proficient in Microsoft Office; Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Bachelor or masters degree. Metals sector experience of benefit but not essential.
