Overview Job Summary: The Saw Operator runs the log saw and homogenizing furnace and coordinates all metal movements through the saw, homogenizer and into the storage yard in a safe, efficient manner. This is a 3rd shift position. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Operates log saw cutting log or billet into appropriate lengths. Ensures proper labeling of logs and billets with stamping unit, color codes and production tags. Moves cut log and billet into appropriate storage area. Loads and unloads logs into appropriate stacks prior to and after completion of homogenization. Operates homogenizing furnace. Assists Saw Helper roll logs from table to saw area. Checks sharpness of saw blades on a regular basis. Assists in the starting and stopping of all cast at the cast unit. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ideal Candidate Will Have: Education High school diploma or equivalent; several years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to other employees and supervisors. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Must possess a valid Forklift Operator’s license and have prior forklift experience. Must be able to operate overhead crane. Other duties as assigned.
