Job Description

Permanent Band 5 Position at the City of Ballarat Manage high risk environments with aggressive dogs Manage highly emotive situations with community members The Role In this role you will be responsible for managing high risk animal situations such as livestock wandering at large on roadsides, dog attack or harassment, dog barking nuisance complaints, dangerous & menacing dogs or other animal-related issues that are causing an immediate threat to public safety. You will participate in the afterhours rotating roster and support the Animal Shelter as required. About You This role requires autonomous work, excellent time management skills, knowledge of strong de-escalation techniques, the ability to work in a high stress environment and love of animal welfare. You will also have a strong knowledge of legislation relating to the position. Key Selection Criteria Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of the Domestic Animals Act 1994, Impounding of Livestock Act 1994, Local Government Act 1989 and Council's Local Laws. Qualifications in industry based/related field or equivalent, eg. Certificate IV Local Government. Demonstrated experience in Animal Management with experience in handling dogs and livestock. Demonstrated experience in a senior role requiring mentoring, supporting and developing less experienced staff. Proficiency in the use of computer software such as word processing and database packages. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare letters, memoranda, investigation reports and brief preparation. Time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks. Experience in dealing with difficult customers. Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work area. Current Victorian Drivers Licence to drive a motor car.
