About the Job As Senior Environmental Management Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring SA Water's environmental performance and compliance obligations are met through implementing and improving frameworks and systems. This 12-month contract combines leadership in environmental management with strategic partnerships to drive sustainable environmental outcomes for South Australia. About Science and Strategy The Science and Strategy group employs scientific approaches to address present and upcoming challenges. They execute a strategy driven by customer preferences to elevate the SA Water brand and position us for future success. About the Person You are a dedicated and experienced environmental professional with a strong background in managing environmental compliance and performance. You bring expertise in maintaining environmental management systems, regulatory compliance, and environmental risk management. Your ability to provide expert advice and build productive relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, sets you apart. You are proactive and collaborative, committed to ensuring environmental outcomes align with organisational goals and industry standards. Your technical knowledge, combined with your strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, enables you to deliver sustainable environmental outcomes and support organisational success. Your responsibilities for this opportunity Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day. You will: Drive continuous environmental improvement by updating, maintaining, and implementing the Corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) for adherence to ISO14001. Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide expert advice on environmental management, sustainability, and compliance across the Asset life cycle. Identify and manage environment and sustainability risks associated with SA Water's assets. Identify, communicate, and implement environmental legislative change across the business. Administer and negotiate Environment Protection Authority (EPA) licences and approvals. Oversee EPA licence reporting requirements and manage tracking systems. Ensure effective environmental incident response and reporting protocols. Conduct environmental and EMS audits, including for key construction projects. Develop and deliver environmental management training programs. Your success in this role will come from: Tertiary qualifications in a science or environment discipline or equivalent experience. A sound understanding of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation. Experience maintaining environmental management systems and understanding of environmental sustainability approaches. Experience in conducting audits and delivering training programs. Skills in assessing and reporting environmental compliance and managing regulatory approvals, including EPA Licences. Building collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes, including government agencies and contractors.
