The Role This family-owned and operated mixed cropping and sheep enterprise seeks a highly motivated and skilled senior farm hand to join their dedicated team. The operation encompasses 6,000 acres, situated 7 km from Grenfell, NSW. Of this area, 5,000 acres are allocated to cropping, with the remaining land designated for sheep production. The cropping activities focus on various dryland crops, including wheat, canola, and fava beans, which are rotated to enhance grain quality. Collaboration with an agronomist is integral to the operation, involving soil testing, creation of soil grid maps, and analysis of protein maps. The farm employs precision agriculture techniques utilising Greenstar, John Deere Ops with G4 and G5 screens, and Agriwebb to optimise crop yield and quality. All sowing and harvesting practices are conducted in-house, with general machinery maintenance managed by the team. Contractors are engaged for windrowing and major maintenance tasks. The sheep enterprise consists of 2,500 Merino ewes mated to White Suffolk rams. In the spring, all offspring are transported back to the family farm in South Australia. Livestock movements and records are accurately managed using Agriwebb, and contractors are engaged for preg testing, crutching, and dipping the ewes. The senior farm hand's responsibilities will encompass the comprehensive management of day-to-day operations. This includes machinery operation, such as spraying with a self-propelled spray rig, sowing, harvesting, machinery maintenance, and sheep herd responsibilities, which involve assisting with shearing and various general farm activities. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the farm manager, another full-time employee, and additional staff and contractors during peak operational periods. The Offer A competitive remuneration package, including accommodation, a work vehicle, and electricity, will be negotiated on either an hourly or salary basis. A comfortable, recently renovated three-bedroom house is available on the property. It is situated away from the main working area and features a large garden and lawn area. Grenfell is 7 km away, with a school bus running past the front entrance to the farm, providing access to both primary and high schools in Grenfell. The town offers various sporting facilities, a hospital, and grocery stores, making it an ideal location for either a family or a single person. It is a five-hour drive to Sydney and three hours from Canberra. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for a suitable candidate with substantial cropping and sheep production expertise, emphasising applying precision agriculture techniques to promote sustainable and profitable farming practices. The ideal applicant will be proficient with technology and demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment. A strong passion for producing high-quality crops is essential.
