Job Description
The Employer: Laharna Farms is seeking a Senior Farmhand with expertise in broadacre cropping who is eager to progress toward the position of Operations Manager. The main farm, situated near the township of Dowerin, encompasses an area of 10,500 acres, cultivating crops including wheat, barley, lupins, canola, and oaten hay. The farm operates under the management of its owner and employs one full-time farmhand, complemented by seasonal workers during the seeding and harvest periods. It is outfitted with modern seeding and harvesting equipment, a self-propelled boom spray, and advanced guidance systems, specifically Trimble and John Deere. The Role: The main responsibilities of this position will include assisting in the execution of cropping plans, coordinating logistics, and achieving time-critical outcomes while maintaining attention to detail. The role requires the operation of various machinery, including air seeders, boom sprays, harvesters, trucks, and loaders, often utilising GPS autosteer systems for precision. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for conducting maintenance and upkeep of the plant and equipment and performing general farm maintenance to ensure optimal functionality and productivity. This role includes travelling to the operations secondary block near Hyden, which is approximately three hours southeast of Dowerin. Contractors do the bulk of the work on this property, but you will be expected to travel and stay there occasionally to perform various duties, including spraying and spreading. The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be passionate about agriculture, organised, self-motivated, ambitious, hard-working, and a team player. Strong communication skills are essential. Requirements include: Experience in machinery operation and maintenance for both seeding and harvest. Mechanical and auto-electrical aptitude. MC (Multi Combination) license is preferred.
