About the department: Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health (Majarlin) is a Commonwealth-funded University Department of Rural Health (UDRH). Majarlin’s central office is based on the University’s Broome campus and sits as an academic institute within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery and Health Sciences. In addition to its Broome base, Majarlin has satellite operations in Kununurra and Derby. Majarlin’s aim is to contribute to the development of a capable and culturally responsive Kimberley health workforce through inspiration, education, innovation, and research. About the role As the East Kimberley Lead for the Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health, you will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating Majarlin’s operations in the region. You will oversee the facilitation of clinical placements, drive career promotion, spearhead research initiatives, and foster strong regional and national partnerships with clinical and academic organisations. In this strategic leadership position, you will provide direction for the East Kimberley operations, ensuring seamless integration with the broader department, Faculty, and university network. Key Responsibilities The role encompasses the management and coordination of a diverse range of educational, research, and clinical initiatives across the East Kimberley region, in close collaboration with Majarlin’s teams. Program Development & Implementation: Overseeing the East Kimberley Clinical Education Program and Research Plan. Student Engagement: Leading local recruitment efforts, including expos and initiatives, and managing postgraduate training programs. Collaboration & Relationship Building: Engaging with local clinical organizations to enhance academic opportunities and projects. Strategic Alignment: Contributing to Majarlin’s strategic goals, ensuring East Kimberley initiatives align with broader departmental objectives. Leadership & Representation: Representing Majarlin within the region and supporting teams outside East Kimberley. Support for Students & Staff: Providing after-hours support, conducting educational activities, and assisting with student and staff needs. Teaching & Research: Delivering subject material, supervising research projects, and engaging in relevant professional and research activities. Administrative & Policy Compliance: Managing administrative tasks, adhering to University policies, and participating in relevant meetings. Qualifications, skills & experience Current unrestricted national registration with relevant Allied Health governing body (e.g. AHPRA). Post-graduate qualifications related to clinical practice, research, education and/or leadership. A relevant doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing together with subsequent research experience. Demonstrated strong record of publications, conference papers, reports and/or professional and/or technical contributions in the relevant discipline area. Proven significant experience as a health professional. Demonstrated experience in leadership of health teams (rural and remote settings highly regarded). Highly developed administration skills and experience in a dynamic and complex environment (higher education experience highly regarded). Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering educational programs (higher education, clinical education and rural settings highly regarded). Understanding of the historical and current issues and trends within Higher Education. Ability to contribute to Majarlin’s rural and remote research agenda; evidence of a research track record is highly desirable but evidence of interest in pursuing research will be considered. Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous peoples. Understanding of the challenges facing Indigenous students and the complex relationship which may govern and influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement with education. Demonstrated familiarity, sensitivity and respect for the diverse needs, aspirations, and cultures of Indigenous societies. Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly both in a team and independently, and in an environment with changing demands. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of people. Excellent computer skills including MS Office and other systems that support academic work.
