Federal Government Department is seeking a talented and creative media professional to undertake media and communication activities to maintain and grow the organisation's reputation and respond to reactive enquiries from journalists. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Media, the key focus of this role will be to support the Media Team to deliver consistent, quality and timely media advice, materials, and services. The media team plays a crucial role in assisting ministerial offices, the department's executive, and various policy and program areas in effectively communicating portfolio policies, programs, and outcomes. As a Senior Media Officer, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders and ministers' offices to respond effectively to media enquiries and prepare media materials such as media briefings, releases, and talking points. Additionally, you'll engage in various activities, including administrative tasks, to support operational needs. This role requires participation in an after-hours on-call roster, including some weekend work, with an appropriate allowance provided. This is an initial 12-month non-ongoing role, with S26 transfers a possibility. Flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week. Canberra or Brisbane location. Why This Role? Skills and Experience Required: Strong written communication skills, and the ability to tailor communication style and language according to the audience. Proven ability to deliver quality outcomes in a small team, including producing high-quality media releases, speeches, and briefing material. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with ministerial staff, executives, and policy areas. An ability to identify and pitch proactive media opportunities to promote our programs and policies. The maturity and judgment to manage competing priorities and deliver work within deadlines.
