Who we are The Strategic Implementation, Governance and Legal team supports the NCA by providing governance and legal services. The team also supports the Chief Executive with strategic work. All team members in the Strategic Implementation, Governance and Legal Section must gain and maintain a working understanding of the NCA’s strategic priorities and support other teams’ shared purpose and direction. Duties The Senior Officer/Paralegal (SO) is the primary advisor on Freedom of Information (FOI) and privacy. The role also manages the Comcover arrangements for NCA and third-party coverage including associated claims management. SO duties will vary depending on team and NCA priorities but are expected to include: responding to FOI requests, arranging release of information, and helping to ensure that the NCA’s FOI framework remains up to date; active management of Comcover insurance coverage, incidents, and claims, ensuring risk is managed within the NCA’s risk appetite; assist the Privacy Champion to build a consistent, high standard of personal information management and meet the NCA’s obligations under the Privacy Act 1988; provide procedural advice and guidance to NCA teams on FOI, privacy, information release and incident management matters; conduct legal research to support production of timely advice on commercial, probity, administrative, and other matters as required; produce reports on FOI, privacy, and incident management for NCA executive; support legislative or policy projects, including liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders (e.g. preparation of briefing material on legal developments affecting NCA business); and assist with ad hoc governance and strategic implementation work. Qualifications/Mandatory Requirements Undergraduate degree in law or extensive practical experience in one or more specialist areas (privacy, claims management, FOI). Skills in legal research. Preferred experience Experience in processing FOI requests under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) or other FOI schemes in another jurisdiction would be well regarded.
