AEMO’s System Design division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation. The rapid transition to renewable energy generation and electrification of many sectors (transport, industry etc) has seen sharp rises in proposed transmission and distribution connection projects. About the role This role will provide dedicated project management service to a portfolio of projects across connection and will proactively work with NSP and proponent in resolving critical issues to accelerate the connection process. The scope of this role includes building strong relationships with external government agencies by providing regular status updates. The Senior Project Manager will also provide mentoring to other staff, including Project Coordinators, and will contribute to improvement initiatives around the connections process and AEMO’s internal systems, tools, and data. What you will be doing Develop a consistent, structured, and transparent project and portfolio management framework to be used across all projects. Convey technical issues and project constraints to a non-technical group of stakeholders. Develop well-structured reports for external stakeholders, including government agencies. Lead workshops and chair project steering committee meetings with external government agencies, NSPs, proponents, and the Senior AEMO leadership team. Deploy active problem-solving, an agile approach, and a flexible mindset. Provide leadership to the project management function within the Onboarding and Connections team, including coaching and mentoring junior employees. What you will bring to the role Education/Certificates Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline (project management, engineering, or a related field). Recognised project management certification is well regarded. Experience and Knowledge Knowledge of the energy sector, including the generator grid connection process. At least three to five years’ experience in project, program, or portfolio delivery and management within the energy industry or a similar industry. Ability to understand, communicate, and manage complex energy engineering programs. Proficiency with relevant software for Project Management and Customer Relationship Management. Proven track record in project managing several projects simultaneously and working within multi-disciplinary teams. Understanding of the key commercial and legal issues impacting large-scale infrastructure projects.
