Long term day rate contract for passionate Quality Engineering Manager with focus on driving the "Automation First" approach and best practice in testing across the entire IT division of a very large, federal government department. This is a people management opportunity for a thought-leader in modern test automation and quality engineering practices. Do you know your shift-left from a V-model? Systems tested can range from Salesforce CRM and SAP to APIs, digital and mobile apps, cloud data EDW and analytics - think Salesforce, LWC, Communities, MuleSoft, REST APIs, Mobile Apps, Databricks, PowerBI, Snowflake, SAS Viya. Market Day rate commensurate with the level of seniority for an ongoing contract of 12 months with opportunities to extend (hourly). Great flexible work model and can be based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. Role Ensure completeness and quality of testing activities and deliverables, assuring quality of all IT solutions delivered internally by the IT team and by Implementation Partners (SIs) Own the overall IT Test Strategy for this federal agency, and have accountability for implementing a test "automation first" approach Continually develop new in-house testing capabilities, with a clear directive for test automation within the context of DevOps and CI/CD deployment - drive the current and future state of testing for the IT Team Ownership of the Test Strategy, setting direction for the test engagements across projects Provide Test Governance and reporting Provide high level vision and technical guidance for the team on automation Develop the testing capability of the team with an emphasis on test automation Work closely with other leaders in IT to integrate testing seamlessly as part of the broader DevOps CI/CD ecosystem, including collaboration with Environment Managers, Infrastructure, Tech Leads, and Delivery Directors. Strong people management for a team of dedicated testers (20-40+, multiple programs, multiple squads, multiple areas) Manage test planning, delivery, risk management and work with Release Train Engineers to provide status Provide authoritative advice and guidance to colleagues on any aspect of testing, including training for the team Requirements Deep expertise and 15+ years in test leadership/management in complex environments Experience leading large, distributed teams across the country, and multiple tech stacks and environments not limited to Salesforce CRM, SAP HCM, EDW, ETL, Analytics, APIs, Mobiles "Thought Leader" in Quality Engineering and Testing - across modern frameworks, methodologies, automation (e.g., Shift-Left, CI/CD, DevOps) 5+ years' experience in Software Test Automation, preferably in the design, development and implementation of automated tests, as well as the associated tools, frameworks and infrastructures. Experience in large SAFe models with multiple release trains, 7-10+ squads, multiple sourcing models (direct contractors and SIs) Expert "hands-on" technical proficiency across a variety of automation and management tools - experience across TFS, Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Postman, TOSCA, Cucumber, JIRA X-Ray, JIRA, Confluence Large Salesforce environments highly regarded.
