We have the perfect opportunity for you to work in an environment where your specialist skills support researchers and users of the University’s radiation facilities, substances and equipment.As the Senior Radiation Safety Advisor, you will provide professional scientific and technical services for the University involving the legislative compliance and best practice use of radiation (radioactive materials, irradiating equipment/electronic products) and nuclear materials.Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and maintain the University's radiation safety management program. Ensure compliance with the Radiation Safety Act 1975 (WA), Radiation Safety Regulations, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation (Safeguards) Act 1987 (Cth). Act as the designated Radiation Safety Officer and Compliance Officer, overseeing the application and maintenance of radiation safety permits, licenses, and registers for Curtin. Provide expert technical advice, conduct investigations, and lead radiation safety training programs. Support the Radiation Safety Committee and Radiation Safety Supervisors in ensuring best practice in radiation management. To thrive in this role, you will be an effective written communicator with: Relevant degree/qualifications in Science, Engineering, or related fields such as Physics, Materials Management, or Materials Science. Alternatively, demonstrated equivalent competency with extensive experience in radiation practices and training. Extensive experience, knowledge and commitment to radiation safety-based practices with demonstrated ability to provide radiation safety management expertise. Radiation Safety qualification(s) as outlined in the Radiation Safety (Qualifications) Regulation and the ability to be registered as a Radiation Safety Officer with the Radiological Council of Western Australia. Knowledge of, and ability to, interpret and apply relevant State and Commonwealth legislation and regulations; and implement best practices. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and demonstrated ability to use a range of media and strategies to communicate WHS information and knowledge to others in the workplace to influence stakeholders and achieve strategic outcomes. Highly developed planning and organisational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to address a range of radiation safety related issues. Ability to engage with stakeholders within the Curtin Community. Work Requirements: Ability to be registered as a Radiation Safety Officer with the Radiological Council of Western Australia. Full working rights in Australia. On-site position, therefore successful candidates must currently be living and/or have confirmed relocation to Perth, WA.
