Job Description

THE ROLE: The Australian Government is simplifying and aligning rules and processes for Australian businesses that export and import, including the delivery of an STS Regulatory Reform Roadmap. This is a collaborative effort involving close engagement and partnership with over 30 agencies. The STS Unit has a central role working across agencies involved in cross-border trade to prioritise reforms, conduct system-wide regulatory analysis, bring together government and industry stakeholders and advise Ministers and senior APS executives on opportunities for reform.The EL1 Senior Regulatory Reform Policy Advisor leads workstreams dedicated to simplifying and aligning complex policy, process, regulations and legislation governing cross-border trade across multiple agencies and sectors. This role is instrumental in driving significant regulatory reform efforts that underpin the STS reform agenda, focusing on substantial outcomes that enhance Australia's cross-border trade system.The Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for leading and developing regulatory reform projects in partnership with agencies and businesses. A significant part of the role involves engaging with a diverse array of stakeholders across internal teams, other government agencies and industry to shape future strategic direction, policy priorities, and operational practices that support STS reforms. This position provides expert advice to Senior Management and Ministers, addressing strategic, political, and operational aspects crucial to both industry and government trade activities.We are looking for people who can work collaboratively with others – both within and across Austrade teams and with our agency partners and other stakeholders. Analyse regulatory policy across government agencies involved in cross-border trade and work with government and industry stakeholders to develop and implement regulatory reforms. Develop high quality data-driven briefing, analysis and policy advice to the Minister and Austrade Senior Executive to inform and influence government deliberations and outcomes on trade and investment issues. Lead on discrete policy development and implementation initiatives as part of the Simplified Trade System agenda and monitor and shape related regulatory policy and strategic developments across Government. Develop and sustain productive relationships with Government agencies, industry organisations and businesses. Lead the coordination and development of ministerial briefing products and input to Cabinet submissions, new policy proposals and related materials. Identify any compliance and risk issues and offer mitigation strategies that support the long-term goals of the STS Unit. CLOSING DATE: Applications close Tuesday, 11 March 2025 at 11:30pm (AEDT).
