James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville is seeking a driven and experienced Senior Research Officer, Health Equity Design to join our College of Medicine & Dentistry team on a fixed-term, part-time basis. ABOUT THE ROLE This role involves coordinating and supporting yarning groups about strategies that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce and strengthening cultural competence of non-indigenous staff, and assisting with implementing resulting actions. You will work collaboratively with the Project Manager to coordinate research and evaluation activity of the project within their Hospital and Health Service (HHS) site to support data collection and analysis. This support will include stakeholder engagement and assistance with qualitative analysis to evaluate the process, impact and outcomes of the project. Conduct thorough literature reviews and analyse data to inform research projects focused on health equity and co-design. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE To excel in this role, you will need a postgraduate degree in a relevant field and proven research experience together with strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills. Your solid understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare context and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, hospital representatives, government departments, academics, and field researchers will see you succeed in this rewarding role. ABOUT THE RESEARCH PROJECT The CRCNA and TAAHC-funded project, “Progressing Health Equity through Strengthening the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce,” aims to enhance the First Nations health workforce in northern Queensland. The project builds on existing activities within Hospital and Health Services, the community-controlled sector, and primary health networks by synthesizing current knowledge, engaging with health equity teams, and co-designing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in both clinical and non-clinical roles.
