Full Time, Fixed Term to 31st October 2025 Grade 3 Scientist position Western Health Pathology Project, Haematology/Transfusion Department About the Organisation: Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service (SPS). This partnership is aligned with the Victorian Government’s wider Pathology system reform to create new public pathology networks. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services. In addition, following the recommendation to form local health service networks by the Department of Health, Alfred Health will be merging with Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health, and Kooweerup Regional Health Services, effective from 1 January 2026. The Role The Scientist in this position will be responsible for the set-up and verification of instruments across the Western Health Laboratories (WH) at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital. Following training, and under the supervision of the Principal Scientist or delegate at Prahran, the incumbent will perform verification studies on the new instruments installed at the Western Health sites, provide staff training, and carry out day-to-day equipment maintenance, and management of quality control and quality assurance programs, as required. The position will require the incumbent to work on premises under construction and will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment whilst on these premises, including but not limited to, Safety Helmet, steel-toe covered footwear, safety glasses, and high-visibility vests. As such, the position will require a White Card qualification, the cost of which will be covered by the SPS. Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in science, Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or equivalent is required. At least 5 years’ experience in working in Haematology and Transfusion. Demonstrate in-depth expertise in Haematology and Transfusion. Demonstrated organisational and leadership skills. Sound verbal and written communication skills. Computer proficiency and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Class C driver’s license and willingness to travel to the various WH and Prahran sites as needed. Desirable Requirements Previous project management experience setting up a pathology laboratory.
