About This Opportunity Are you an expert in X-ray analysis looking to apply your skills in a world-class research environment? The Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (CMM) at The University of Queensland is seeking a Senior X-ray Scientist to play a critical role in supporting the NRICH (Natural Resources, Innovation and Characteristics) Hub. In this role, you will provide high-level scientific expertise, operate and maintain advanced X-ray instrumentation, and collaborate with researchers to develop cutting-edge analytical methods. You will also train and support clients, ensuring they can fully leverage CMM’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Rigaku Supermini and Zetium-DY3024 Panalytical instruments. Key responsibilities will include : Operate, maintain, and optimise Rigaku Supermini and Zetium-DY3024 Panalytical instruments while developing new analytical methods and experimental workflows. Provide expert training, guidance, and support to researchers and industry clients in X-ray techniques, ensuring effective and safe instrument use. Conduct X-ray measurements, including sample preparation, data collection, and interpretation, delivering high-quality analytical reports for fee-for-service and research projects. Oversee instrument maintenance, compliance with ISO9001 standards , safety protocols, and assist in securing grants for equipment upgrades and method development. About You A PhD in Analytical or Inorganic Chemistry with expertise in X-ray analysis, including XRF, X-ray spectroscopy, and surface analysis techniques. At least two years of experience using XRF instruments and proficiency in one or more of XFM, EDS, XRD, or WDS. Strong ability to train and support clients, with a passion for teaching and developing expertise in others. Experience using mineral characterisation software for data analysis and interpretation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with researchers, clients, and colleagues. Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory environment. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
