About the Opportunity The EnergyCo Legal Team supports the broad work of EnergyCo. EnergyCo has a delivery function in the implementation of the NSW Government Electricity Roadmap and other policy related to energy and climate change in NSW. The Legal Team are seeking to appoint a Special Counsel (SC) to lead specialist legal services on administrative, regulatory and commercial matters related to energy and climate change. The role oversees senior lawyers, supervises external legal resources and manages stakeholder relationships. The role provides expert advice, counsel and recommendations on legal matters, to influence organisational decisions and initiatives. This includes leading the development and implementation of strategic and operational legal frameworks, providing expert advice to senior stakeholders and directing the legal function to ensure legal service delivery enables and facilitates the achievement of EnergyCo priorities. About You To be successful in the role you will have experience in energy law – especially the National Electricity Rules and National Electricity Law and/or NSW specific legislation and an understanding of legislative framework in NSW and drafting of law and regulation. You have the proven ability to work in highly complex commercial environments and in delivering timely and relevant legal services, including experience in energy and/or other large infrastructure sectors, including addressing a broad range of legal issues and the role may be required to provide advice on an urgent timeframe and/or without all pertinent details. You are a leader who takes on the challenge of providing relevant strategically astute legal advice considering the broader political and commercial context. Essential Requirements Admitted as a legal practitioner and holding a current unrestricted practicing certificate. Extensive high-level experience in the provision of legal services. The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy. EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). EnergyCo plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state’s electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020, EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State’s first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority transmission infrastructure projects (PTIPs), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions. We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.
