Statewide Discipline Medical Director Microbiology Seeking a competent and experienced individual who will report to the Chief Pathologist PQ and will maintain a day to day working relationship with the Laboratory Operation Managers and Principal Chief Scientists to generally: Provide statewide strategic advice, leadership and direction in defining quality standards for your clinical speciality across PQ. Take on responsibility for medical leadership and clinical governance to all consultant Pathologists and registrars with discipline specific knowledge of your speciality and its applications in medicine. Provide medical leadership and accountability in your clinical specialty through planning, communication, performance feedback and a strong focus on staff morale and appropriate reward and recognition. Review and optimise staffing levels to improve supervision, on call arrangements, governance, and training. Review the current and future role for Genomics. Key competencies (role specific criteria) Comprehensive knowledge and experience in supporting contemporary diagnostic pathology services in your clinical specialty discipline across a diverse laboratory network. Demonstrated success in working with your peers in other clinical laboratory specialties to design a standardised, cost effective, coherent and responsive clinical service. Experience in developing and overseeing internal policies and procedures in your clinical specialty that meet the clinical needs of both the laboratory service and its customers. A clear understanding of public sector policies and procedures (especially within Queensland Health). Ability to present and analyse operational data and contribute to management reporting within your clinical specialty. Experience in recruiting, managing and developing a high performing team across a diverse laboratory network and engaging with that team to achieve a single goal. Effective delegation of tasks by empowering your team and holding them accountable on their performance and experience in addressing any inappropriate conduct/behaviour. Understanding and experience in workplace performance guidelines and performance reviews. A high level of knowledge and proven experience in supporting staff with their personal and professional development. The ability to recognise industry trends to influence and contribute to the strategic vision and advancement of the organisation. A strong focus on providing services that aligns with customer expectations for access, clinical utility and quality of the services. Collaboration with stakeholders to co-design a high quality and efficient laboratory service in your clinical specialty, across a laboratory network. Capability to identify, mitigate and manage clinical risks and issues within your clinical specialty across a network of laboratories. Understanding of quality management principles and implementation of initiatives that lead to continuous improvement in your clinical specialty. Knowledge of the ISO 15189 NATA Medical Testing Requirements demonstrating continued accreditation in your clinical specialty for all laboratories across a diverse network. Demonstrated compliance with NPAAC's supervision of pathology laboratories guidelines in your clinical specialty in laboratories across a network. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated collaboration and negotiation capabilities. Proven ability to stay positive and see opportunities when others see challenges. The ability to role model professional and expected behaviours to build strong peer relationships. The ability to meet deadlines, work collaboratively and solve complex problems. An understanding of education and learning processes that enable the delivery of world-class programs designed to develop people's talents and interests. The ability to plan, implement and contribute to research and development initiatives. Qualifications, registrations and other requirements Mandatory requirements are a medical qualification and tertiary qualification in the relevant Pathology discipline (FRCPA, or equivalent) and be registerable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Specialist Pathologist. Proven experience in directing pathology statewide services at your discipline speciality level. Applications from conjoint appointments are welcome. Qualifications in medical administration or demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in medical administration (desirable). Experience with directing teaching and applied research (desirable).
