Tax Manager – leading property and asset investment organisation This role can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne, and thus, individuals with suitable experience who are currently based in either location are encouraged to inquire and/or apply. The Opportunity The Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring appropriate tax governance and meeting tax compliance obligations of the organisation. This role will work closely with (and reports to) the organisation’s Tax leader, and also interacts significantly with Investment, Capital Transactions and Development and the broader finance and legal teams in providing tax advice on real estate transactions. The Tax Manager will analyse financial data, prepare tax returns, and provide tax advice to help the organization make informed financial decisions. Accountabilities: Supporting the organisation’s Head of Tax in partnering with and advising key stakeholders in the Capital Transactions, Investment and Development and Legal teams on key business objectives and real estate transactions. Provide support and expertise in the analysis of tax implications of business transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, divestures, and restructuring, and provide strategic recommendations. Analysis and advice to cover income tax, GST, stamp duty, land tax and other real estate taxes. Advise the business of the impact of new / proposed legislation, rulings, decisions, regulations in tax and related areas and implement changes to internal processes where relevant. Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation, regulations, and industry trends, and assess their potential impact on the organisation's tax position. Tax Compliance Prepare/review the tax calculations included in the distribution process and the preparation of distribution statements and other tax lodgements. Prepare/review accurate and timely tax returns utilising tax software, including AMIT tax returns, trust returns, company returns, taking into account Division 6C compliance and MIT testing requirements. Reviewing BAS returns. Reviewing land tax assessments and ensuring compliance with land tax across the property portfolio. Process Improvement and Risk Management Conduct periodic reviews and assessments to monitor tax compliance and identify potential risks or areas for improvement. Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to mitigate tax-related risks and ensure accuracy and integrity of tax reporting. Assist the Tax team in maintaining the tax governance framework, assisting with revenue authority reviews or audits and reporting and mitigation of tax risks. Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, and/or law. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant, and/or Chartered Tax Adviser, or an Admitted Solicitor. 7-12 years of tax experience, preferably in Funds Management and/or Real Estate. Proficiency in tax compliance software and financial analysis tools. Strong analytical and financial modelling skills, with expertise in Microsoft Excel. In-depth knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles. Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic thinking abilities. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional teams. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
