Sydney Water is looking for a Technology & Innovation Specialist to join our dynamic Research & Innovation team! About the Role As the Technology & Innovation Specialist, you'll be at the forefront of identifying and implementing next-gen technologies and innovative solutions that will improve Sydney Water’s business processes, systems, and customer outcomes. You will be responsible for creating and nurturing a culture of innovation, enabling the adoption of new technologies that elevate our business and drive sustainable improvements in the water sector. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with business teams to identify and explore emerging technologies, using research networks, industry platforms, and cutting-edge solutions. Lead cross-functional workshops & facilitate technology roadmaps from concept to deployment. Focus on transformative technologies, including robotics, artificial intelligence, sensing technologies, and water treatment innovations that align with Sydney Water’s Research & Innovation Strategy. Manage Sydney Water’s membership of various emerging technology platforms, ensuring our operations benefit from the latest advancements. Evaluate cross-industry innovation opportunities and assess their application to the water sector. Seek external funding via government grants and industry partnerships to support new initiatives. Coordinate both internal and external innovation activities, fostering collaboration across teams and departments to accelerate innovation adoption. Promote the integration of research and innovation outcomes into business practices to ensure ongoing improvements and efficiencies across the business. Lead pilot trials, leverage industry partnerships and manage stakeholder engagement. About You To succeed in this role, you’ll need a passion for technology and innovation, along with the ability to apply your expertise to real-world challenges. You should have: Proven experience managing complex science and technology projects, ideally within the water industry or similar sectors. A degree in science, engineering or technology-related field. Technical expertise in innovation, technology, and science, with a focus on practical application and measurable results. A track record of managing multidisciplinary projects and bringing research outcomes into day-to-day business operations. Experience & know-how in developing roadmaps in the delivery of research & innovation projects. Strong program and project management skills with a focus on innovation. Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside universities, industry professionals, and government bodies. Knowledge of technology trends in the water industry, or a keen interest in how emerging technologies can drive progress in this field. The ability to work with diverse stakeholders and champion new ideas across the business.
