Cleveland Education and Training Centre is now accepting applications for a highly motivated and proactive Transition Officer (AO4) to join their team on a permanent, full-time basis. The role of the Transition Officer is to provide assistance and ongoing support to young people to re-engage in education or training within the community. About The School Cleveland Education and Training Centre (CETC) is a Department of Education school operating within the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre in Townsville. The Centre's catchment comprises the area graphically north from Rockhampton, west to the border and includes island communities off the Queensland coastline. Young people incarcerated by the court system are from ten to eighteen years. CETC is a service provider within the Detention Centre therefore all staff are required to comply with a range of safety and security protocols. From 2022 CETC has delivered education programs within the Detention Centre for 48 weeks of the year. Staff will be required to operate on a roster where leave allocation falls outside the mainstream school holiday periods. All new staff employed will need to be willing and able to take leave outside the school holiday periods to accommodate rosters. Your Role As the Transition Officer, you will work collaboratively with students and relevant stakeholders to assist young people in making a successful transition from youth detention facilities to employment, training and/or educational pathways in the community. You will actively promote pathways for students to continue with further learning, training and employment opportunities after release from detention. The Transition Officer is responsible for meeting placement and outcome targets by successfully engaging and supporting students to transition into education and employment and sustaining their placement post detention. The Transition Officer collaborates with a range of stakeholders, including students and carers, Queensland Government partner agencies, and agencies from the broader service system. Due to this collaboration the successful applicant will be required to travel throughout Townsville, Cairns and regional North QLD. As the Transition Officer, you will work closely with the Head of Department to enact the school's strategic plan and participate in quality improvement activities, including data collection and analysis, program review and evaluation and implementation of innovative practice. The successful applicant will have the ability to implement strategies and programs that will improve the transition outcomes of young people who may have had varied schooling experiences, and a proven capacity to work effectively with young people in addressing their future learning, training and employment pathways. The ideal candidate would have well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain positive relationships with students and key stakeholders.
