About the Role At CFA, the vegetation management program reduces bushfire risk by managing fuel loads and strengthening the skills of volunteers, staff, and the community. This is done by improving understanding of fire behaviour and effective prevention measures. In this field-based role, you will provide expert advice on sustainable vegetation management for fire prevention, considering legislative, environmental, cultural, and financial factors. You will assess treatment options and develop operational plans aligned with State Policy, Regional Strategy, and community needs. Key Responsibilities Assist in planning and implementing linear breaks for operational preparedness. Engage with stakeholders, communities, and agencies on vegetation management. Ensure ecologically sustainable, culturally sensitive, and risk-based management solutions. Provide expert technical advice on vegetation management. Conduct property inspections and develop treatment plans with CFA brigades. Deliver timely, accurate fire prevention and vegetation management advice. Communicate legislative requirements, policies, and guidelines to stakeholders. Monitor, review, and improve treatment plan implementation. Oversee reporting, contractor supervision, and support vegetation management teams. Provide planning advice and capacity building for CFA volunteers. Assist in post-fire rehabilitation efforts as required. About You Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following: Appropriate tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative, environmental, and technical issues relevant to vegetation management. Demonstrated experience and ability to assess vegetation management risks, develop appropriate mitigation plans, and facilitate implementation of those plans. Demonstrated ability to develop, build, and maintain partnerships between key stakeholder groups. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to prepare high-level written advice, plans, and reports. Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
