Talent Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia APS6 Financial Accountant - Federal Government Contract: 12-month non-ongoing contract with possibility to become permanent (S26 transfer might be considered if high-quality candidate)Location: Canberra About the role A Federal Government agency is seeking an experienced APS6 Financial Accountant to support financial reporting, compliance, and process improvements. The role involves liaising with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring financial integrity, and maintaining compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and Commonwealth financial regulations . Key Responsibilities Assist with month-end reporting, including preparation of journals and reconciliations. Prepare yearly financial and statutory reports in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and Department of Finance requirements. Maintain and manage Fixed Asset Registers. Provide support on Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Treasury-related matters. Develop and improve financial policies and procedures to enhance business operations. Coordinate ANAO audit requests and queries. Assist in monitoring changes in Accounting Standards and Commonwealth financial frameworks to ensure compliance. Prepare and submit monthly and annual financial reports through the Central Budget Management System (CBMS). Ensure compliance with GST, FBT, and other taxation obligations. Skills and Experience Strong knowledge of Commonwealth financial reporting requirements. Experience in financial management, budgeting, and procurement in a Government setting. Proven ability to analyse complex financial data and provide insightful recommendations. Ability to manage stakeholder relationships and communicate financial insights effectively. High-level attention to detail with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Qualifications Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional accreditation with CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (or working towards). Eligibility/Other Requirements: To be eligible for employment in this role, you must be able to provide evidence of Australian Citizenship, be able to obtain a satisfactory National Police Check and have a Baseline security clearance (or ability to obtain).
