About the team The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is the Australian Government’s national authority on measurement. We play an important role in the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia’s measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services. The Legal Metrology Branch plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services. The opportunity Reporting to the Manager, Region One, Trade Measurement Services, the EL1 Assistant Manager is accountable under broad direction to undertake very complex work that delivers quality outcomes from trade measurement services functions of NMI. The position will be responsible for effectively managing a dynamic team, planning and coordinating the Region’s operational plans in line with LMB’s Business and National Compliance Plans and undertaking high level trade measurement functions. Our ideal candidate The capabilities listed below describe the specific skills, knowledge and behaviours required to successfully perform this job role: In-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and department guidelines and regulations, including but not limited to, complex trade measurement issues, techniques, verification and trading practices. Demonstrated ability to manage tasks to contribute to the delivery of a diverse range of highly specialised technical services and regulatory activities in accordance with best practice, government policy and legislative requirements. Demonstrated communication and stakeholder management skills with an ability to initiate, establish and maintain strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, ensuring a positive, engaged and high performing team environment. Demonstrated ability, under broad direction, to engage with and resolve complex issues, think strategically, undertake analysis and prepare high level policy advice, reports and briefings. What you will do This is a list of primary duties and responsibilities that are typically performed in this role under broad direction / supervision: Demonstrate behaviours consistent with the values of being inclusive, strategic, influential, adaptive, accountable and innovative. Develop, implement and monitor/evaluate the Region’s work programs and compliance activities. Provide leadership and direction to a geographically spread team for program delivery. Extensive knowledge of statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks to provide technical advice and manage complex compliance and enforcement activities. Well-developed skills in research, analysis, problem solving, planning and organising to manage competing priorities and workloads. Engage and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities, develop educational and other programs, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation. Maintain accurate records and practice appropriate document management in line with the Department’s policy, security, privacy and legislative requirements. Eligibility This is a list of mandatory professional qualifications, certifications or licenses required under legislation or policy to undertake the role: Australian Citizenship. Appropriate Police Check and Security Clearance (employer arranged prior to commencement). Certificate IV in Government (Trade Measurement). Certificate IV in Government (Investigations). Current Australian driver’s licence for motor vehicles (Automatic). Notes Desirable professional qualifications, experience, certifications or licenses include the following: Current First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain quickly. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Experience in leading a team operating in a regulatory environment.
