The Role The Automotive Electrical Engineer is the subject matter lead in diagnosing and resolving complex wiring issues, designing custom wiring configurations, and providing expert technical guidance. This hands-on role is critical to ensuring reliable electrical systems in light and heavy fleet vehicles, as well as specialised systems. Responsibilities include fault finding, custom wiring design, and overseeing the installation and integration of 12/24V and 240V systems while maintaining safety and quality standards. The role involves close collaboration with team leaders and fitters, offering expert support and guidance. It may also include occasional on-site support and participation in sales meetings to provide technical expertise. Key Responsibilities Technical Responsibilities Wiring Design & Configurations: Design, review, and advise on wiring systems for vehicle up fitment and modifications, ensuring compliance with safety standards and performance requirements. Advanced Fault Finding: Diagnose and resolve complex wiring and electrical issues across 12/24V systems and 240V inverter setups. Vehicle Up fitment: Support the installation of aftermarket components, including wiring for bullbars, tow bars, service body pods, lighting systems, and inverters. System Integration: Configure and optimise electrical systems for light fleet vehicles, heavy vehicles, and specialised setups. Radio & Communication Systems: Install, test, and troubleshoot VHF/UHF radio systems. Technical Advisory: Act as a technical resource for team leaders and technicians, providing guidance and solutions for complex wiring challenges. Coaching & Collaboration Mentor and coach team leaders and technicians on best practices for wiring, fault finding, and electrical system installations. Participate in team meetings and sales discussions to provide technical insights and solutions. Work collaboratively with workshop staff to ensure efficiency, high-quality outcomes, and problem resolution. Safety & Compliance Ensure all work complies with Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations. Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free workspace. Monitor and maintain electrical tools, ensuring they are in safe working condition. Key Skills & Qualifications Qualifications: A degree or advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field is essential. Certificate III in Auto Electrical Technology or equivalent is preferred. Technical Expertise: Proven experience in diagnosing and resolving advanced wiring and electrical issues. Knowledge of 12/24V systems, 240V inverters, and vehicle communication systems. Proficiency in using wiring tools (e.g., soldering irons, crimpers, multimeters). Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address complex electrical challenges efficiently and effectively.
