Job Description

The Chief Clinical Advisor Group protects and enhances the safety, health and well-being and quality of life of people receiving aged care by driving a higher standard of clinical rigour across the aged care sector.Within the Chief Clinical Advisor Group, the Clinical Pharmacy Unit promotes best practice and supports the quality use of medicines. The Clinical Pharmacy Unit provides subject matter expertise to areas of the Commission on medication-related risks and issues, and quality use of medicines. This supports the regulatory functions of the Commission and informs best practice for initiatives and projects across the Commission. The Clinical Pharmacy Unit provides expert advice to the sector to support evidence-based practice on quality use of medicines. This includes responding to queries from providers and other external stakeholders, as well as through the Pharmacy Outreach Program to residential aged care services.The Clinical Pharmacist will play a key role in promoting the quality use of medicines and best practice medication management across the aged care sector. The position involves providing expert medication advice to various groups within the Commission and to the sector. The Clinical Pharmacist will be required to work collaboratively to identify, design, and implement initiatives, research and projects focused on improving medication management and the health and wellbeing of older people receiving aged care services.The key duties of the position include: Provide expert advice on the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medicines, addressing complex medication-related issues such as polypharmacy and deprescribing. Respond to queries from various stakeholders including aged care providers, pharmacists, and the Commission on medication-related issues and best practice regarding quality use of medicines. Contribute to the development and review of evidence-based guidelines, protocols, and best practice resources to enhance medication management in aged care. Deliver expert support as part of the Pharmacy Outreach Program. Develop and deliver educational materials, presentations, and workshops tailored to the needs of various audiences that can include aged care providers and staff, pharmacists, prescribers, and Commission staff. Identify and propose new initiatives and projects aimed at improving medication safety and the quality use of medicines across the aged care sector. Conduct research and analysis activities to support the regulatory functions of the Commission. Collaborate with the Commission and other stakeholders to identify emerging medication safety concerns and contribute to the development of strategies to mitigate these risks that align with the regulatory and strategic priorities of the Commission. #J-18808-Ljbffr
