Duties: Primary Purpose / Focus : The Financial Accountant is responsible for assisting the Manager – Budget and Finance in: Ensuring the integrity of the general ledger; Completing the external reporting requirements of the Department, including financial reporting to Treasury and the completion of the Department’s annual financial statements; Developing relevant accounting policies and processes which improve controls and result in greater efficiencies. Skills and Experience: Selection criteria includes: Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, particularly general ledger maintenance and exposure to financial statement preparation. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, understanding, interpreting, and applying accounting standards, and awareness of contemporary accounting issues and emerging trends in accounting and reporting in the public sector. Well-developed oral and written communication and conflict resolution skills including the ability to represent Strategic Financial Control or the Department and build a good rapport with officers within the Department and external organisations. Relevant tertiary qualifications, together with membership of, or progression towards, either CPA Australia or the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
