Purpose of the Role CDC Victoria is on the lookout for a First Nations Coordinator to work hand in hand with CDC and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities. This vital role seeks to enhance the company's cultural understanding while promoting inclusivity and respect. By implementing the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) initiatives, you will help build positive relationships and strengthen partnerships within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, paving the way for a brighter future together. The First Nations Coordinator will be instrumental in empowering CDC Victoria to advocate for cultural understanding and inclusivity, thereby deepening the company’s connection with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This position is critical in furthering CDC Victoria’s commitment to reconciliation and fostering broader community engagement and cultural initiatives. Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Manager, the First Nations Coordinator will manage and support CDC’s RAP engagement portfolio as well as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities. A primary focus will be aligning with First Nations businesses in accordance with the social procurement policy. This role will involve collaboration with First Nations leaders and key external stakeholders, providing strategic guidance to implement planned initiatives and achieve established objectives. Main Responsibilities Build CDC’s ability to effectively engage and collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, partners, and stakeholders. Oversee the delivery of RAP initiatives, coordinate with regional RAP Working Group members, and maintain strong relationships with Reconciliation Australia, First Nation organisations, and other partners. Raise CDC Victoria’s profile within local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and actively participate in community engagement initiatives. Advocate for reconciliation principles, promoting positive actions to internal staff, external stakeholders, and local communities. Collaborate with relevant managers and teams to develop projects and initiatives that enhance CDC’s brand, culture, and customer satisfaction in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager to manage and communicate CDC’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's engagement efforts to both internal and external stakeholders. Organise and manage key events related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, such as National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week. Stay informed on relevant legislation and policies to drive reconciliation outcomes effectively. Coordinate and implement sustainability initiatives aligned with national and local sustainability and social engagement goals, including Social Procurement plans and compliance. Support the development of a sustainable portfolio focused on social impact, community engagement, and sustainability, positioning CDC as a key partner for government and industry. Coordinate and support key partnerships and initiatives that align with CDC’s contractual obligations, business targets, and objectives. Key Requirements Designated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Position (DAP): Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent required. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in stakeholder or project management, preferably with a focus on reconciliation, First Nations affairs, or social impact initiatives, along with a strong connection to First Nations communities in Victoria. Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, histories, and contemporary issues. Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups and individuals. Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to coordinate and nurture collaborative partnerships. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to advocate, influence, and inspire others toward reconciliation goals. Knowledge of reconciliation frameworks, such as the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) process, and familiarity with relevant legislation and policies. Ability to assess and report on program performance using appropriate metrics and data. Experience in identifying and establishing connections with First Nations businesses to support the procurement process, including sourcing suppliers through platforms like Kinaway Business Chamber of Commerce, Supply Nation, and other relevant resources. Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently and remotely. Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word and Excel.
