The OpportunityBased in Perth - home to Rio Tinto's largest Australian workforce – this role is responsible for a world class employee communication and business partnering team who will inform and engage Rio Tinto colleagues across Australia for greater business impact. The role serves as a key point of contact for the Australian communications team to align messaging and approaches for maximum effectiveness across the country.This role coordinates and drives communications initiatives across the entire Australian business, working closely with senior leaders across Australia and Iron Ore operations to ensure consistent, impactful communications that advance key priorities including Rio Tinto's best operator ambitions, cultural transformation initiatives, employee value proposition and talent strategy, and change management in support of business objectives.You will have deep curiosity about Rio Tinto’s business, assets and culture evolution, a continuous learning and improvement mindset and a commitment to continuing to innovate our employee communications strategy in our largest market. This person will also be an able team leader and an active and visible role model for the culture we are building at Rio Tinto.About The Role Reporting to the Head of Communications – Australia & Iron Ore, and with a dotted line to the Global Head of Employee Communications, you will Lead an Australia wide Employee Communications practice that uses creative and innovative storytelling (and delivery methods) to keep employees informed about Rio Tinto’s strategic objectives and business developments, building connection and loyalty. Coordinate Rio Tinto’s Australian employee communications initiatives to ensure consistency of messaging, creating a single culture and experience across different regions. Ensure the Australia and Iron Ore employee communications plan is coordinated alongside the global communications plan and message cascade makes sense to employees and is simple and coherent. Develop and deploy innovative internal communications that reach the entire employee population including front-line and employees in a hybrid environment, recognising our employees are not a homogenous group and require differentiated methods of communication for maximum impact. Partner closely with relevant senior leaders, and especially the Iron Ore and Australia people functions, to ensure communications strategies support business goals and help leaders navigate business risks. Support Iron Ore and Australia senior leaders including the Chief Executive, Iron Ore and Chief Executive Australia to become even better and more effective individual communicators. Through the team, manage town halls and events for maximum impact and ROI (time and investment). Embed robust analytics, listening and measurement processes into communications strategies, analysing and sharing relevant metrics to demonstrate communications plans effectiveness and continuously improve. Act as an active advocate for an evolved culture in Communications (focused, expert, fun and dynamic), as we build an industry leading function. What You’ll Bring Significant experience in managing aspects of employee communications, culture and change communications in large companies, agencies, or government departments. Strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. A demonstrated commitment to seeing the entire communications function succeed and thrive as a team player. A collaborative, curious, proactive, respectful and inclusive leadership style. A problem-solving mindset with the ability to facilitate solutions at pace. A creative and innovative approach to delivering communications outcomes. Proven ability to provide strategic communications advice to senior management across to maximize impact. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor messaging for different audiences. Evidence of proactively seeking and responding to feedback to drive continuous improvement. Agility in adapting communication approaches based on stakeholder input and changing business needs, while openly sharing lessons with colleagues. Experience in coaching senior leaders on their own communication style and impact. Demonstrated ability to lead in a matrix organisation.
