Job Description About the Opportunity This position leads and provides high-level health and safety advice and support to the Griffith University Health Group along with being a member of the University health and safety functional leadership team as well as the Health Group Tier 2 Health, Safety & Wellbeing Committee. As well as reporting into the H&S Director, this position has a dotted reporting line to the Dean Academic and will be located/embedded in the Health Group facilities. Key Responsibilities Provide support and assistance to the Director – Health and Safety in the development of health and safety plans, management systems, and projects and actively participate and represent the H&S team on related committees, networks, and groups as required. Lead & support a team of direct reports. Participate as an active member of the health and safety functional leadership team. Maintain a high-level understanding of current and emerging legislation and be able to provide strategic advice, analysis, interpretation, recommendations, and/or decisions regarding legislative issues to clients, particularly to researchers, facility operation managers, and senior management. Build personal and effective relationships with clients and external stakeholders and proactively take the initiative to consult on a broad scale where change will affect other University operations as well as promoting a positive culture around health, safety, and wellbeing. Be the primary Health and Safety contact for the Health Group and lead the implementation and continuing management of the Health Group Safety Management System (SMS) ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic health and safety goals. Provide support and assistance to the Health Group Executive in the development of health and safety plans; and actively participate and represent the Health Group on related committees, networks, and groups as required. Provide support and assistance to key people in identifying and managing high-risk activities (through audit, inspection, incident investigation, corrective action implementation, and early intervention services) to identify best practice initiatives; and ensure effective risk management procedures and protocols are in place and adhered to. Proactively support and encourage a positive health and safety culture throughout the Health Group to align health & safety activities with corporate objectives. Support and collaboratively develop administrative structures, systems, and quality practices for the effective and efficient management of health & safety within the Health Group. Manage the Group’s health & safety web presence including the provision of online health & safety induction and assessment for students through Griffith University Blackboard. Provide advice to managers and supervisors on how they can manage their compliance with relevant State and Federal legislation, University policies and procedures, including equity and health & safety and exhibit good practice in relation to same. Lead and promote compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including diversity and safety and exhibit good practice. Be a leading example of the principles and values embodied in the University’s Code of Conduct, and behave, act and communicate at all times to reflect fairness, ethics, and professionalism. About you Completion of a relevant degree with extensive health & safety experience, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and/or experience. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation, management requirements, best practice, and emerging trends; and the ability to provide authoritative, professional advice to senior management. Candidates must have full unrestricted Australian work rights and may be subject to a National criminal history check. What we can offer This is a continuing opportunity based at Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Salary is HEW 9 – Base range - $129,419.86 - $134,047.43 + 17% super.
