About the Role AVS is seeking an experienced and strategic Intellectual Property Manager to lead the management and protection of AVS's intellectual property portfolio. This role is vital in ensuring the industry adoption and commercial success of AVR's technology innovations. Reporting to the Chief Commercialisation Officer, you will work closely with internal stakeholders, external patent attorneys, and researchers to oversee IP strategy, legal compliance, and commercialisation pathways. Key Responsibilities: Provide strategic IP management advice to AVS leadership, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives. Oversee patent, trademark, and PBR portfolios, including registrations, maintenance, and compliance. Work with external patent attorneys on drafting, prosecution, and IP-related legal matters. Support contract negotiations for R&D agreements and strategic funding partnerships. Develop and deliver IP education and training programs for AVS and AVR staff. Manage IP budgets and reporting, ensuring cost-effective strategies. Supervise and mentor the AVS IP and Commercialisation Project Officer. Qualifications & Experience: Mandatory: A relevant tertiary qualification in an IP-related discipline and a degree in Science, supplemented by postgraduate qualifications. Preferred: Qualified Patent Attorney status (or successful completion of subjects towards qualification). Proven experience in intellectual property management, particularly within biosciences, agriculture, or research-based environments. Strong knowledge of IP law, commercialisation processes, and strategic portfolio management. Ability to work collaboratively with researchers, business development teams, and external stakeholders. Excellent project planning, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Why Join AVS? Please note the remuneration on offer for this position is $130,000 - $150,000 + superannuation.
