Hay St Market is opening 24 March 2025, and we are looking for experienced Operations Manager – Food & Retail to join our dynamic Pre-Opening Team! This is your chance to play a key role in the creation of Sydney’s newest and vibrant food and retail destination. Join Hay St Market as our Operations Manager – Food & Retail as you take charge and oversee the daily operations of food and retail space at Hay St Market including the Hawkers Market and Central Markets. Reporting to the General Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the market’s food and retail offerings, ensuring operational excellence and enhancing the customer experience. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the daily operations of all food and retail spaces within Hay St Market, including the Hawkers Market and Central Market. Ensure smooth operations for food stalls and retail outlets, maintaining a high standard of service, cleanliness, and operational efficiency. Manage logistical aspects such as opening and closing procedures, stall setup, and market flow to ensure a seamless experience for both customers and staff. Stock control and inventory management for all food and retail outlets. Work with suppliers to maintain inventory management while monitoring sales trends. Ensure that all food and retail operations comply with health, safety, food safety, and liquor licensing regulations. Financial management and reporting – monitoring food and retail budget and cost control. Assisting in preparing and managing budgets. Customer experience and engagement. Who we are looking for: Minimum 5 years’ experience in food and retail operations management with a strong focus on operational excellence and customer engagement. Bachelor degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration or related field. Previous experience as an Operations Manager – Food & Retail or similar position in a high volume fast-paced environment. Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, health and safety compliance, and customer service standards. Proven experience managing inventory, supplier relationships, and a team in a fast-paced environment. Why Hay St Market?
