About our team The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure. The Immigration Group administers Australia’s permanent and temporary migration programs, people smuggling policy and implementation, and refugee and humanitarian settlement programs. The group delivers status resolution in detention and the community and manages the Department’s client-facing services and information services. Our ideal candidate You will have a broad skillset where you can plan, manage, organise, influence, direct, control and review the day-to-day operations and major functions of a business unit or program area. You must: Be an ongoing EL1 employee in the APS Possess well-developed leadership skills, particularly in a high tempo environment while displaying integrity and high ethical standards to deliver efficient and accurate workplace outcomes Have strong written and verbal communication skills Display good judgement and pay careful attention to detail in order to make lawful decisions confidently, while undertaking analysis and drawing accurate conclusions based on evidence. Duties and responsibilities Working as an EL1 officer within Immigration and Legal Groups you would typically work across the following categories: Managing or leading a team Developing, implementing and managing policy Leading project delivery and performance activities Delivering operational outcomes and other enabling and supporting functions.
