The Opportunity Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council is looking for a full-time Post Office Manager based in Kowanyama, Queensland. Reporting to the Executive Manager Community Services and Cultural Heritage, this role is accountable for managing the efficient and effective operations of the Kowanyama Post Office, including its services and team. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to: Overseeing banking operations Managing daily operations, including customer service, mail processing, and general sales Ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with Australia Post and Council guidelines Maintaining and balancing the Automatic Teller Machine and stock levels Updating and maintaining an accurate Procedures Manual Supervising, mentoring, and providing development opportunities for staff Resolving customer complaints and managing conflict effectively Ensuring adherence to workplace health and safety standards Developing and implementing strategies to increase merchandise sales Collecting and maintaining data and statistics for reporting purposes Managing financial performance against budget targets Ensuring compliance with Council’s Code of Conduct and policies Fostering a positive and productive workplace culture What you'll bring To qualify, you will need demonstrated experience and understanding of Australia Post operations and a high level of knowledge in PC-based applications, including the Microsoft Office suite and Post Office systems. A minimum of 2–3 years of experience managing a customer-focused service environment, preferably in a Post Office or similar role, will also be essential. You will also need the following qualifications and certifications: Responsible Service of Alcohol Queensland certification or willingness to complete prior to commencement Experience in the maintenance and operation of an ATM machine or willingness to undertake training National Police Clearance Current Manual Driver’s Licence Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued: Previous training and licences with Australia Post services Strong supervisory skills with the ability to train and mentor staff in Australia Post systems, policies, and procedures High-level customer service and cash-handling skills Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures Experience working and living in remote areas or Aboriginal communities As our ideal candidate, you will possess the following soft skills that will make you succeed in this role: exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, strong organisational abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
