Job Description

Part time (0.6FTE) fixed term position for 2 years Be a part of the co-designed study ‘Reimagining practitioner-led asthma self-management support for older women’ Base Salary starting from $109,301 + 17% superannuation (Pro Rata) About the opportunity The Sydney Pharmacy School is a globally recognised leading centre for pharmacy research and education. Our teams of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy, across a range of therapeutic areas. Women in Australia die from asthma at nearly twice the rate as men, and those over 45 years of age account for 96% of these deaths. Evidence suggests that both biological and psychosocial factors may contribute to the increased risk for older women. Yet, little has changed in asthma policy and guidelines that are specific to how healthcare is delivered to these women to address this inequity. The University is seeking to employ a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to join the co-designed study led by Dr. Stephen Hughes. The incumbent and research team will partner with women to:1) better understand their needs for health professional self-management asthma support; and2) develop and pilot ways to improve how healthcare is provided for women with asthma. The purpose of the study is to focus on women over 45 years of age with asthma, particularly those currently under-represented in the literature and those living in socio-economically marginalised communities. It will be a call to action for health practitioners, asthma organisations, and our society, challenging them to listen to older women with asthma and change how self-management, patient-centred care, and shared decision-making are currently practiced. The expertise and experience of women will be captured to develop appropriate tools and innovative educational materials that resonate with health practitioners who support older women with asthma. Additionally, the small real-world test of the tools will provide valuable feedback from health practitioners. The team’s hope is to ensure healthcare delivery can be more effective in achieving improved asthma outcomes for older women with asthma. The incumbent will be required to assist with project governance and management, reporting, organization of the co-design committee members and other stakeholders, recruitment and participant relations, focus group data collection, analysis, and dissemination. The individual will be based within the School of Pharmacy located on the Camperdown campus. Your key responsibilities will be to: Conduct research, scholarly or professional activity, independently or as part of a team, contributing to discipline knowledge Develop and refine independent research skills under the supervision of more senior academic staff Contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence, and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled Understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty/school strategic agenda Undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.
