Registrar Support Team Leader The Registrar Support Team Leader role is responsible for the daily oversight and management of CMs, LCMs, and SJR Associates (collectively, registrar support staff) in the registries within their region, under a national management structure led by the Director – National Registrar Support. Under the Courts’ case management pathway, SJRs and JRs (collectively, registrars) undertake the majority of front-end case management and interlocutory work previously undertaken by judges. In addition, they perform a significant proportion of dispute resolution events to resolve proceedings. Registrar support staff provide direct, one-on-one support to registrars in the case management of their family law caseload, including supporting registrars working on various specialist lists across the Courts, including but not limited to, the Evatt list and the National Contravention List. Registrar Support Team Leaders should be proactive, collaborative, and possess great communication and leadership skills to ensure smooth and effective operations within their local registry and across the broader cohort. Registrar Support Team Leaders will work closely with the National Coordinator – Registrar Support and the Director – National Registrar Support to determine day-to-day allocations and report on the ongoing performance and management of CMs, LCMs, and SJR Associates within their respective region. Key Responsibilities and Duties Registrar Support Team Leaders are primarily responsible for ensuring there are sufficient resources in the registrar support space to safeguard the effective and efficient handling of family law matters by registrars under the Courts’ case management pathway. Registrar Support Team Leaders will also have the following day-to-day responsibilities: Work with the Registrar Support Coordinators (RSCs) in their region to manage ad hoc leave coverage and temporary allocations, ensuring registrar-led court and chambers events are operationally viable and effectively run. Develop and maintain relationships with other Registrar Support Team Leaders nationally to manage broader leave coverage and longer-term allocations. Regular reporting and communication with the Director – National Registrar Support regarding team performance and culture. Be responsive to requests from external and internal stakeholders regarding registrar support. Management of Local CMs, LCMs, and SJR Associates Conduct regular performance and wellbeing check-ins with each CM, LCM, and SJR Associate to monitor performance and enhance skill development. Understand the workload pressures of each individual chamber regionally and arrange additional resources as needed. Approve all leave and timesheets, and manage probation periods. Develop and maintain relationships with Court staff and respond to requests efficiently. Facilitate one-on-one training and professional development opportunities for CMs, LCMs, and SJR Associates. Regularly report on performance and suitability of local CM, LCM, and SJR Associates. Recruitment and Training Assist in the recruitment, induction, onboarding, and training of new CMs, LCMs, and SJR Associates. Lead the induction and refresher training for existing registrar support staff. Address competency or training issues as instructed. Liaise with HR regarding general issues that arise. Assist with ongoing training of CMs, LCMs, and SJR Associates. Maintain and Update Policies, Processes, and Procedures Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Courts’ case management systems and internal processes. Provide information and advice to ensure chambers operate in accordance with national guidelines. Other Duties Registrar Support Team Leaders may provide ad hoc legal and administrative support to registrars when chambers are short-staffed or require additional support due to overall workload volume. Professional Qualifications, Competencies, and Attributes Tertiary qualifications in law or management are desirable but not mandatory. Prior experience working in the Courts or a court environment is advantageous. To undertake this role, the successful candidate will demonstrate: Exemplary communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills; Strong analytical, change management, and operational skills; Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in communications; The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively; Substantial management knowledge and experience; Sound knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of court procedures and practices.
