Senior Legal Counsel - Commercial Lawyer - Prestigious ASX Listed Retail Organisation Opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to step into a leadership role within a high-profile, ASX-listed organisation renowned for its prestigious luxury brand and market presence. You will play a critical part in shaping the future of the business, working alongside top-tier professionals in a fast-paced and forward-thinking environment. The role: This role is ideal for a commercially minded legal professional with expertise in negotiating leases, franchising agreements, and corporate governance. As Senior Legal Counsel, you will report to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, leading the day-to-day operations of the legal team and providing expert guidance and support across key areas of the business. Key Responsibilities: Act as a trusted business advisor, delivering expert legal guidance across a broad spectrum of matters, including disputes, small claims, consumer law, property, franchising, and general commercial and corporate law. Lead the daily operations of the legal function, with a primary focus on core business activities, while supporting additional areas such as acquisitions, privacy/data protection, ESG, and corporate regulatory compliance. Manage and mentor the legal team, overseeing legal operations, including matter management, template development, and knowledge sharing. Draft, review, and negotiate diverse contracts, agreements, and legal documents to safeguard the company’s interests while enabling business objectives. Resolve legal disputes, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution, in collaboration with external counsel when necessary. Stay informed of legal and regulatory changes relevant to the organisation and provide timely, strategic advice. Design and deliver compliance training programs to educate employees and directors on legal requirements and best practices. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executives and department heads, to provide proactive legal support that aligns with business goals. Experience and Skills Required: 8+ years post-qualification experience, with a combination of in-house legal expertise and a strong foundation in a top-tier law firm. Advanced knowledge of commercial, contract, consumer, privacy, procurement, and property law. Demonstrated ability to manage complex commercial agreements and negotiations. Experience working with ASX-listed organisations is highly desirable. Strong leadership capabilities, with a proven ability to guide and develop teams while managing senior stakeholders. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with a pragmatic approach to legal and regulatory challenges.
