The Role This role will lead the raw materials team in setting the Procurement strategy while also being responsible for category management, sourcing & negotiating key agricultural commodities such as Wheat & Grains, Oil, Dairy, Sugar & Nuts both locally and internationally. The individual will be a subject matter expert and have ownership for executing strategies that drive value, improve operating margins, and gain a competitive advantage in line with procurement policies. Key Responsibilities: Uses Corporate buying analysis (e.g. risk v value) to form strategic alliances with suppliers to support mutually beneficial relationships. Develop sourcing strategies and initiatives to align with agreed targets and savings. Use market intel and instruments to reduce and offset market volatility. Identifies and develops strategic supply sources for assigned categories. Provide insights, trends and recommendations to support operational and strategic objectives. Monitors and continuously improves supplier performance and build a data base of suitable alternatives via cross functional evaluation. Maintains excellent internal and external working relationships to resolve issues and optimize performance. Appropriately communicates supply agreements and supplier performance to ensure on time delivery of agreed quality products. This will be supported through the maintenance of SAP records including contracts, source lists and information records. Delivers savings targets through value analysis of the entire supply chain, ethical negotiations, and implementation of supplier integration programs. Recognises suppliers as a resource and actively seeks to maximise benefits for Sanitarium via ongoing management of cost down and supply improvement programs. Involvement in new product development and Project groups to ensure timely launches to budget. The Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance or other relevant studies. 8+ years’ experience in sourcing, procurement or category management within the FMCG or similar industry. 2+ years’ experience in leadership or people management. Solid knowledge of cost drivers and supply base for assigned commodities. Strong negotiation skills effective across all levels of business. Commodity management and futures trading experience. Excellent communication skills. Experience in agricultural procurement is highly regarded. Experience in trading shares or futures compliments this role.
