Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Leader – Pacific Strategy. The AFP, through Pacific Command, has a lead role in Australia’s strategic engagement in the Pacific. This role requires a strategic thinker with a passion for collaborating and contributing to operational and strategic outcomes. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a broad range of complex and sensitive projects working collaboratively across the organisation and the National Intelligence Community (NIC). Working closely with the Coordinator, you will contribute to analysis and advice to enable the Pacific Strategy team to meet its operational priorities and objectives. You will also be required to act in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. What will you do? The successful applicant will be expected to lead and manage a team, prioritising, delegating and collaborating as necessary to ensure the delivery of quality, timely and professional outcomes. Working under broad direction, this role requires a cooperative and collaborative environment that is responsive and flexible in meeting the AFP’s objectives. The primary responsibilities of the role are: Manage a team including building capability, performance, and professional development. Supervise and undertake the timely development of high-quality products with clear, concise analysis in written or oral form. Lead, manage and balance a broad range of reactive and proactive work across the organisation and National Intelligence Community. Manage projects and focus resources on supporting strategic objectives. Design and develop initiatives, tools, or reports to enhance current ways of working. Build strong productive networks to establish avenues of enquiry, data sharing and collaboration opportunities across the NIC. As a Team Leader you will also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below. Essential Requirements Extensive experience and knowledge of intelligence concepts, methods and analysis and their effects. Proven ability to lead and manage a team. A proven ability to set the strategic direction and deliver operational and organisational outcomes. Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues to non-expert audiences. A Top Secret Positive Vetting security clearance or the ability to obtain. Desirable Requirements Experience and knowledge of threat and risk analysis. Demonstrated knowledge of geopolitics and Australia’s foreign policy and national security objectives. Highly developed strategic, analytical and critical thinking. Cultural, social, religious or language skills and experience. Knowledge of controlled operations.
