We are seeking an experienced, dynamic health or training professional to head our newly established Workforce & Training Development team . This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact by addressing workforce challenges and driving training initiatives that will shape the future of healthcare in our region. The Role The Team Leader, Workforce & Training Development , will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing strategies to address workforce challenges and drive training initiatives. Collaborating with stakeholders across the region, you’ll lead programs that enhance workforce capacity, ensure alignment with organizational goals, and support professional development for health professionals, including Building the Local First Nations Enrolled Nurse Workforce project. The Team Leader, Workforce & Training Development will be responsible for the following key functions within the WQPHN organisation: Provide leadership and guidance across workforce and training projects to ensure alignment with organisational objectives. Supervise and mentor team members, promoting a culture of excellence and collaboration. Engage with stakeholders to strengthen workforce pathways and address systemic supply, capacity and retention challenges. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of workforce programs and initiatives. The Right Person We’re looking for a proactive leader with a strong background in workforce planning, training development, and stakeholder engagement. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are passionate about driving impactful change in health workforce capacity. The successful candidate will have: Tertiary Qualifications in health sciences, allied health, education or related fields, with minimum of three years’ experience in a practice and/or teaching role. Strong cultural connection and knowledge of First Nations communities in Western Queensland. Extensive experience in VET/education, health, and/or workforce development sectors, with the ability to navigate these systems effectively. Demonstrated expertise in primary care and community health services, particularly in rural and remote settings, including experience with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities. Proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Strong aptitude for working across organisational structures and promoting a positive team culture. Ability to implement new strategies and approaches to improve healthcare delivery and workforce development. Familiarity with digital health tools and data systems, and strong competency in Microsoft Office and related software. A valid driver’s license and capability for extensive travel in rural and remote areas. Familiarity with Value-Based Health Care (VBHC) principles and an outcomes-focused approach to program management, service delivery and/or commissioning. Experience with workforce capacity-building strategies and partnerships with educational and training organisations. High-level problem-solving and negotiation skills, preferably with demonstrable application in addressing service gaps and optimise health outcomes. Ideally, this critical role will be based within the WQPHN region in Longreach, Mount Isa, Winton or Roma; however, applicants are welcome to apply from across Queensland. Why WQPHN?
