The University Work Health and Safety Unit at Flinders University is recruiting a Work, Health and Safety Assistant to work across a broad range of academic units. This position will be working as part of the University WHS Unit and will be working closely with the team to manage safety aspects of WHS across several colleges. About the Role Responsible for providing support to areas regarding WHS services with particular reference to chemical management and the relevant WHS legislation, University policy and procedures, the role title is WHS Chemical Assistant. Some of the key position responsibilities include: Assist in the implementation, monitoring and reporting of WHS chemical practices in the University. Assisting and support chemical management activities within the Work Health and Safety Unit. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on general WHS practices, including legislative requirements relating to chemical safety. Assist in audits, inspections and other activities that support WHS practice and continual improvement for chemical management compliance. About You Ideally, you will be diligent, effective, and proactive to ensure the support you provide meets the requirements of the role, including the ability to take initiative and work in both team and autonomous environments. You will bring a collegial and collaborative work ethic to be able to provide support and assistance to relevant areas. You will also have: Knowledge of WHS issues in relation to chemical management. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Evidence of completion of a certificate level qualification in Work Health & Safety or relevant work-related experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in WHS or Science related background. Experience in the handling of chemicals and/or other hazardous substances and relevant experience and/or qualification in science or a related field will be advantageous.
